Well the market has hit a brick wall with many new builds coming to a halt as buyers dry up. There is no doubt an over supply of property at the moment, but this means that prices are easing to more realistic levels. It has been a tough year so far and looks like ending on the same note. Things are not helped b y the local councils, who because of the elections committed themselves to projects, but did not have the funds to finish them. An example is the town swimming pool at Torrox. The council had planned to make it an all year pool, but run out of funds and now they have no pool for the summers. 2009 will probably be even more difficult, so take your time and do plenty of research.

The tax treatment of properties owned by non residents has now changed, mainly in favour of the non resident. So make sure you understand the rules and are not overcharged.
If you are thinking of buying in the area, now is the time to look. Try and see as many properties as you can, only then can you get a feel for what you can get for your money. If you think that you can still buy a property here for under £50,000, then you are looking in the wrong area. Those days are long gone, such bargains are really only to be found in the more remote areas inland. Happy house hunting!
